Communication Avoids Incrimination

Early in my business career I worked for a company with a vibrant atmosphere. Vibrant and vibration have similar roots. Vibration can settle things; or sometimes it can shake things apart.

This company employed an experienced bookkeeper, who was as diplomatic as he was sharp.  His favourite line, when pushed for an opinion, was “I refuse to comment on the grounds of incrimination”.

We shy from binding agreements, signed contracts, and promises because we fear commitment, due to the possibility of it turning to incrimination. As a result, we have cases where we are frustrated with overdue accounts. We fear when certain numbers appear on our call displays.

The cynic says promises are made to be broken.

“I’m a soft guy…” is a common statement – “…I’m easy”.  A “soft guy” shies from commitment, because of the possibility of incrimination. The less he promises, the less he has to watch for. Possibly we could call it laziness.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Contracts are only incriminating if they are not followed, or if communication is lacking.  Contracts are a godsend if they are honoured and the lines of communication remain open. This will help us avoid difficult confrontations.

Communicate, communicate, communicate.

In the Input Business Guidance class, we will, as a group, discuss our various natures.  As well, we will consider the types of promises and communications we find we can be comfortable with.

Join us for a class!

You are welcome.
